Dear Fellow Angler,
Happy New Year. Hopefully everyone enjoyed a safe and happy Holiday Season. The 2007 WRB tournament season is fast approaching. We are going to kick off 2007 with a pre-season meeting next Thursday 1/11 at 6:30 at the White River Café in Clarendon. The agenda for the meeting will include: presentation of 2006 awards; signing up of new members (bring your $20 membership fee and a friend); and election of 2007 officers and two “at-large” Tournament Committee positions. There have been volunteers for all officer positions except Tournament Director and the two “at-large” Tournament Committee positions. A vote will still be held for each position to ensure that all those interested have an equal opportunity to serve.
The current Tournament Committee has constructed and agreed upon a tournament schedule for 2007. Please find attached with this letter a copy of the 07’ schedule. You will notice some changes in the 07’ schedule as compared to previous seasons. There was much discussion towards the end of last year and through the winter concerning ways to improve the club and continue to grow or otherwise sustain our numbers. The most common request was to end the season earlier in the year to prevent burn out during the dog days and early fall. The Tournament Committee accommodated this by shortening the season to seven tournaments with the regular season ending July 21 and the Classic being scheduled for the weekend of September 8th & 9th. The 07’ schedule will still include a drop tournament for a total of six tournaments counting toward AOY points.
Another common request was to “mix up” the locations a little bit. It was our goal when the present club got up and running in 03’ to keep most of the tournaments somewhat local. We have been successful at this, but it has resulted in fishing the same locations at the same time of year for four years. This issue was addressed by adding in a couple new locations that are still local to East-Central Arkansas and adding one “away” tournament. The “away” tournament was an idea of having one tournament a year during prime fishing time at a venue not local for any of us. There were several locations mentioned i.e. – Greer’s Ferry, Chicot, Dardanelle, etc.
We hope that the club membership is satisfied, if not excited, about the sites and dates selected by the Tournament Committee for the 2007 season. All tournament dates avoid holidays and are primarily spaced three to four weeks apart for convenience. If you plan on participating in 2007 or becoming an officer or one of the two “at-large” Tournament Committee members, the January 11 meeting at the White River Café is the place to be.
On another note --- the host web-site for our club site has changed hands. Ken Simpson is currently in negotiations with the new owners as to the status of our web site. An update will be provided at the 1/11 meeting.
